Japanese Months

On this page we will learn simple Japanese words and phrases related to months. The Japanese word for month is Gatsu. All of the words for the months have Gatsu as part of the word. For example the word for January is IchiGatsu, made up of Ichi (One) and Gatsu Month. Its the same right up to December, which has a literal meaning of twelve month, Juni Twelve and Gatsu Month.

Here are some useful words to know that include the word month Gatsu. Getsunai which means by the end of the month, or Getsuji which means every month.

The chinese character for Month also can be read as Tsuki (which by the way means Moon). Thats why some words that are to do with Month, actually start with Tsuki. An example is the word for every month, which is TsukiZuki. Another example is the word for the middle of the month which is Tsukinaka. Here Tsuki means month and naka means middle.
